Is the Physical Wellness of your Heart Enough?

Yes, we all know what we need to do for the good physical health of the vital muscular organ of our cardiovascular system to keep blood pumping through our body. When we look further, there’s a multitude of guidelines on what to eat, what not to eat, lists of do’s and don’ts. Yet, is the physical wellness of your heart enough to keep you in vibrant good health? What are you doing about caring for the good health of your emotional heart? What recommendations are you following for the emotional wellness of the repository of your feelings, emotions, intuition, beliefs, and, most importantly, where your feelings of love and compassion emanate? Take this to heart!

The importance of a healthy emotional heart really hit home for me when I nursed my mother through congestive heart failure a few weeks ago. My mother has maintained a healthy lifestyle and has been in good health for all of her 84 years except for her High Blood Pressure. When, within a few weeks, my mother’s health deteriorated to the point where she was admitted to hospital in an ambulance, I learnt all I could about High Blood Pressure (Hypertension). It’s a ‘medical condition in which constricted arterial blood vessels increase the resistance to blood flow, causing an increase in blood pressure against vessel walls.’ Of the people living in the United States, 20 percent have Hypertension. [1] In 90 to 95 percent of the cases diagnosed as having High Blood Pressure, there is no identifiable cause states the American Heart Association. [3]

From my training with Louise Hay, I know that the heart represents love while our blood represents joy. ‘Our hearts lovingly pump joy throughout our bodies.’ So I wondered what thoughts and feelings were causing my mother to feel less joyful? What was causing the stress in her body? What heartfelt emotions were manifesting as an increase of her blood pressure? Was my mother going through an increase of inner pressure? Was she harboring unresolved negative emotions from childhood?

Others deserve my compassion
Whilst she was steadily recovering, I had a heart-to-heart talk with her about something that she’d mentioned to me years ago … about how her mother had treated her when she was a new born babe. My mother admitted that my grandmother had told her that she was a sickly and unwanted baby, that she’d wrapped her in a towel and left her crying in a corner of the room on the floor. My mother grew up coping with this rejection. It left her carrying anger and resentment towards her mother for all those years causing the stress which eventually manifested as High Blood Pressure.

 
So, I really got a ‘reminder call’ that I want to share with you. Taking care of your emotional heart is just as important as taking care of your physical heart.

You seriously need to get to the heart of any painful childhood memories or negative feelings and start to heal them. Ask yourself ‘What is draining my physical energy in spite of my healthy lifestyle?’ ‘I take care of my physical body so why do I have High Blood Pressure (or any other disease in my body)’? Am I carrying resentment and anger?

Holding onto hurtful old negative feelings and emotions is hugely detrimental to creating a healthy heart. Resentment and anger, lead to stress, which accelerates the heart rate, which leads to High Blood Pressure, which, if left untreated, is a leading cause of heart attacks.

I release all past hurts  into the hands of love
Negative beliefs and thoughts such as ‘I’m unlovable, I’m insignificant, I don’t deserve, I’m not good enough, people are out to get me’ will create stress in your body and is also detrimental to the health of your heart. And then there’s the ‘big’ stress issues, such as failure to achieve financial success, failed relationships, career instability, for example. All these different types of stresses can be healed easily by opening your heart, ‘repairing’ and reconnecting to the natural feelings of your emotional heart.

 
The health and wellness of your heart is much more than the absence of illness and disease. Wellness is about being proactive, taking responsibility for your health and trusting in your body’s innate ability to heal itself.

Your emotional heart houses all of your ‘heart-felt’ emotions and feelings, from feeling affection to romantic love, to your passions and compassion - EVERYTHING that you ‘hold close and dear to your heart’.

The first step to opening your heart to healing is to identify the actual negative emotions and feelings that you are carrying. I find, when facilitating my workshops, that most people have become disconnected from their true feelings. They have pushed down and suppressed their past pain to the point of being numb to any emotions or feelings.

The second step is to return to loving yourself again by releasing your negative emotions and to forgive yourself and others. Learning to open your heart and to love and forgive yourself is one of life’s most powerful teachings and is a powerful step in securing a healthy heart. Forgiveness is the process of opening your heart and letting in love. If you deny yourself self-love, you will naturally assume that you don’t deserve life’s abundant gifts that a loving and supportive universe has to offer you. You will isolate and limit yourself from having new healthier and more fulfilling relationships.

Listen to Your Heart ♥ affirmation ♥
Choose one of the Alternative or Complementary Healing therapies or workshops available to support your inner journey. Amazingly, in 1982 Louise Hay first published her now famous book ‘Heal Your Body’ in which she identifies the likely cause of heart problems as ‘Longstanding emotional problems. Lack of joy.
